How many times have you been exploring Missouri, maybe on a hike or even just out for a leisurely drive, when you discover a hidden gem you never knew existed? Missouri’s dotted with hidden gems waiting to be uncovered. If you’ve not made your way to the mysterious Boathenge in Missouri, you may want to add it to your bucket list. It really is one of a kind.
Unravel a Missouri mystery when you visit Boathenge, in Columbia, its name partially taken from the mysterious Stonehenge in England.
Local legend states that Boathenge, an installation created by anonymous artists, suddenly appeared along the Katy Trail a few years after the horrific flooding of 1993 and 1995.
The mysterious art installation features six boats and a measurement that mirrors Stonehenge. Both Boathenge and Stonehenge, for example, boast a circumference of 108 feet.
Marvel at the boats, each of which stands 13 feet tall and spans six feet in width. If you were to measure the inside, you'd see that each is precisely three feet deep.
Only the anonymous artists really know the backstory behind Boathenge, leaving an intriguging mystery for hikers and bikers along the Katy Trail to stumble upon.
Don't forget to bring your camera or smartphone along. While the mysterious gem is fascinating any time of the day, it's particularly pretty around sunrise.
